About the Artist

Dan Woodman is mildly autistic. The process of creating SOIL is intended to be therapeutic as well as humorous. Dan identifies with SOIL’s characters — especially Cory — who illustrates many of Dan’s own personal challenges and enables him to publicly express inner anguish, which many autistic people have difficulty doing. Cory also embodies the inner childlike curiosity and romantic frustrations of the author.

Dan is a lifelong train lover, a modern history enthusiast, and a huge fan of the television show Doctor Who. When he is not working on SOIL, Dan likes to study tornadoes, read other humor comics (particularly Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts), and explore the woods surrounding his home in Maine.
